For the second time in the history of the HMB World Championship Battle of the Nations, in 2021 a national team will be led by a female captain. In 2020, the Brazilian HMB team for the BotN will be led by Mirian De França Santos.
As we find out, the girl is one of the best HMB fighters in the country today and she has gold and silver medals in tournaments. At the last HMB CUP tournament in Argentina, she was 1st in the Longsword and Sword and Shield categories, and 2nd in the Sword and Buckler category.
Of course, HMBIA News couldn`t wait to get acquainted with this unique Brazilian woman, who will enter the list of the HMB World Championship Battle of the Nations in Romania as the captain of the team in 2021. What is she fighting for, what plans she makes and how great are the ambitions of the new captain, we will tell you in our She Fights For rubric.
The HMB community of Brazil respects Mirian. As a result of the last election of the captain of the national team, she got the position of Vice captain. However, Joao Zerbinatti, the elected captain, had to retire due to personal circumstances, so Mirian received all the duties and responsibilities of the captain.
Mirian is strong, focused and dedicated to success. In addition, she has experience in our sport, because she has been training since 2014. During this time she actively trained and took part in tournaments.
An HMBIA reporter had a little interview with Mirian De França Santos and that’s what she told us:
A great responsibility, because we are in a process of expanding the sport in Brazil, which brings many challenges. It is a great challenge also due to the aggravation of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the evolution of the teams and fighters. There are many fighters in Brazil who want to have a BotN experience. So we have to organize the qualifying tournament to invite the best athletes to join the national team.
Brazil has participants in all expected categories except Full Plate Harness, but due to the need for quarantine to enter Romania there may be dropouts.
We haven’t had the tryouts due to the worsening of the Covid, but I will take part in female buhurt and Profight.
The captain has a serious approach to everything related to her duties, but Mirian’s ambitions are also great!
“Everyone interested to enter the HMB Brazil team is super motivated by the opportunity to fight with the best athletes of the world. At that moment, confidence has to be given to them to deliver their best. I expect a strong debut for our female fighters and to move up to the Silver Division in the men’s 5 vs 5 buhurt”.
We thank Mirian De França Santos for the conversation and look forward to meeting her and the entire Brazilian team at the HMB World Championship Battle of the Nations 2021 in Romania.
