Team Austria was founded at the end of 2011 and participated in Battle of the Nations in 2012 for the first time. Since then the number of fighters has been increasing every year.
We started with 6 fighters in 2012. This year our Team has 15 guys from 4 different Austrian HMB clubs, from 4 major cities. As this is our third year, we gained some experience in our preparations for the World Championship. Also, the Team of National Organizers, with me as Captain, hasn’t changed at all since the very start of the National Team. It makes us a proper working unit.
We are going to participate in the “5 vs 5” group battles with 2 teams (8 and 7 men). We have also 2 fighters for the “1 vs 1” category. They are tough guys. They have good international trainers, who prepared them exactly for “Battle of the Nations”. My boys are strong, I can’t even promote a single one of them. They all trained and worked hard to get to the World Championship. They will do the best and go beyond their limits to achieve victory.
Unfortunately, we are not participating in women’s category. We have no girls training for HMB in Austria nowadays. We had a big promo campaign to raise awareness that this sport is not only for male athletes. Unfortunately, there are still no female fighters. But we are trying to attract women to reenactment and hope that next year we will have a strong Austrian female fighter. I expect fair competition from fifth World Championship. We want to face to the strong opponents and do our best. We also waiting for a good and interesting fights.
