Concerning traumas in HMB

– Information for novices:

As practice shows, it is better not to enter the lists without preliminary preparation. In addition to physical fitness, the utmost attention should be paid to the protective properties and convenience of armor. In fact, even if a fighter has no special training, just puts on armor (of good quality) and goes into buhurt, it is unlikely that he/she will be in danger. There’s a chance to get a bruise, but not a serious wound. Often, when a novice participates in buhurt for the first time, it is enough to push him/her slightly to knock the person down. Medieval battle, in fact, is less traumatic than any other kind of contact martial arts.

You do not have to rely solely on the strength of your protective equipment while in a battle. If a fighter is in a corner and attacked by three men with halberds, it is unlikely that person will remain unharmed. And if a fighter, being in such situation, tries to break free and continues to fight, the number of traumas will be less than in the first case. Good physical form, convenient armor and quick reaction reduce chances of needing medical aid. The rules enforced by marshals also increase the safety of participants.
