Juan Manuel Chevasco Diaz,
fighter of “CECM” club (Argentina),
fighter of National Team of Argentina
… Concerning his way to HMB sport
I have been doing a research on medieval fencing for over 8 years and have been implementing what I had read in the bests-known manuals. We don’t have professional trainers here in Argentina, so we have to do what we can.
The new experience I got from full contact fighting has really changed me in many ways. I practised different contact sports, like rugby, taekwondo, Olympic fencing, the art of self-defense, and all those sports stole a piece of my heart, but today buhurt is, actually, a mix of all of them. This full-contact sport is really a unique experience that unites many categories of contact battles, and I’ve been really interested in it since 2012.
… Concerning his armor and weapons
I use Visby armor, because it is practical and comfortable, that`s why I like that epoch. And also this armor can be transported easily.
I use two-handed weapons like bastard swords, one-handed swords for triathlon competitions and buhurt falchion and shield.
… Concerning the process of training
The main goal of “CECM club” (“Centro de Entrenamiento de Combate Medieval”) is to train technically and tactically, focusing on the sports basis, training mind to withstand critical situations.
I like to learn from the best. I have close contacts with guys from Russia, Ukraine, USA, England, who have helped me and are still helping daily by advising me how to be a better HMB fighter. I like Ramon Maldonado from USA. Like in all the sports I have practised before, my goal is to learn and become the best sportsman, like Russian fighters.
… Concerning preparation for tournaments
My training before tournaments is focused on the spirit of victory, good physical condition, fine-tuning of basic and advanced techniques. You should be relaxed and calm and have an ability to think on the battlefield.
… Concerning qualities needed by any HMB fighter
Individual technique, individual tactics, individual strategy, mind control and enjoyment. And you have to be a single entity with the rest of your team.
… Concerning the National Team
In 2012 Andy Di Francesco participated in the summit in Paris, and brought the initiative to Argentina. She sacrificed a lot, she paid for the ticket on her own and represented our nation at that great summit. That was the initiation of Argentina in buhurt.
It sounds like madness, but the first time, when our National Team was fighting as a real team, was in Aigues-Mortes. We didn’t have time to practise all together before our first fight against the Italian team, so we lost it, of course, but we gained a lot of experience and friends.
… Concerning the season of 2014
I’ve took part in “Battle of the Nations”-2014, the Austria Cup 2014 and some Argentina tournaments (“Torneo Porteño” by “CECM” club, “Vanimatir” by “Lobo Negro” club, “Metropolitano” by Federación Argentina de Combate Medieval, “Aguas de Oro” by “Pecari club”).
… Concerning his favorite category
My two favorite categories are “1 vs 1” and “5 vs 5”. They offer totally different experiences. The process of preparation is different as well. The goal is also different, although in all the categories the aim is to WIN, but the ways of winning are different. Opponents are different, in “5 vs 5” your opponent is a Team, in “1 vs 1” your opponent has a Name.
As for me, I was a member of the team that participated in the “5 vs 5” category at “Battle of the Nations”-2013 and “Battle of the Nations”-2014.
