I think, first of all, the marshal must have a certain experience of historical medieval battles, and not necessarily be a person who has been competing, but a person who knows what armor and weapons look like.
Also, you need not to be afraid of being close to fighters during battles on the lists. And, of course, it is very important not to be afraid to separate fighters at certain moments of the battle, when opponents have a lot of adrenaline and excitement; it is also important to remain calm and resolute in making decisions.
The marshal have to be objective and not give their preferences to any of the participating countries. The marshal have to be incorruptible, impartial, honest and sincere. And one more very important point – you need to truly love your duties, and then everything will be all right!
I wish all HMB marshals, new and experienced ones, to have all the mentioned qualities!
