“Battle of the Nations” is the biggest festival of historical reenactment of the Middle Ages, within which the World Championship in historical medieval battle is held. It’s a new and unique cultural and sporting movement. HMBIA (Historical Medieval Battle International Association) has been successfully holding “Battle of the Nations” for 5 years.
The idea of creating the festival (and, accordingly, the World Championship) originated in 2009, and in 2010, for the first time in the world, the Championship took place in Ukraine. The tournament was attended by the National Teams of four countries, namely Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Poland.
The second international festival “Battle of the Nations” was held in 2011 (again in Ukraine). That year is considered to be the point when the festival reached the world level; in addition to the above mentioned teams, the event was also attended by the teams of Germany, Italy and Quebec.
In 2012 the HMB World Championship “Battle of the Nations” was held outside of Ukraine for the first time. Poland hosted the event. Representatives of twelve countries, namely Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Belarus, Quebec, Germany, Italy, Austria, Israel, the USA, Denmark and the combined team of the Baltic States (Latvia and Estonia) arrived to compete for prizes and medals.
The year 2013 showed that the fourth “Battle of the Nations” developed and matured. France hosted the event that gathered 22 National Teams of different countries. Teams of Australia, Argentina, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Britain, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Spain, Italy, Quebec, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Poland, the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia), Russia, the USA, Ukraine, France, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic, and even Japan fought to win the popular tournament.
In 2014 the HMB World Championship “Battle of the Nations” was held in Croatia, and the number of participants came close to thirty. 27, if say precisely, National Teams arrived in Trogir to fight for honor and glory. “Battle of the Nations” has no plans to rest on laurels, the Championship is constantly evolving and improving. The year 2014 gave a new category, “female triathlon.” And for the first time in the history of “Battle of the Nations” the fights were refereed by a female marshal, Jemma Kirton from the UK.
We’re waiting for the surprises of “Battle of the Nations”-2015!
