Esther Veldstra, Netherlands: “Most of us knew about “Battle of the Nations” and had an ambition in that direction”

HMB movement in the Netherlands is small in number. We are a mixed group of martial arts enthusiasts and reenactors of various periods.

The historical fighting in the Netherlands is represented mostly by fencing and HEMA, and the western competitive style for early medievalists.

People who were the initial members of TDMCA (The Dutch Medieval Combat Association) were looking for “something more”. Most of us knew about the World Championship in HMB “Battle of the Nations” and had an ambition in that direction. Eventually, a small group decided to start organizing and we soon found kindred souls who wanted to do exactly the same.

And at last, after all organizing and preparation issues, the National Team of Netherlands is going to attend the World Championship in HMB “Battle of the Nations”-2015. We decided to send a “5 vs 5” buhurt team, a poleaxe fighter and one lady – it’s me :).
