“Toros Monumental”-2017: the unique venue

27 Apr 2017 16:47
This year, for the first time in its history, Championship of the world in HMB “Battle of the Nations” will not take place in the premises of some medieval castle. This year’s venue of choice is “Toros Monumental”. This venue is unique due to its difference to places which HMB sportsmen and fans are used to. Unlike the castles and keeps, Monumental was built only in 1914. However, regardless of the absence of the medieval background, the “Battle of the Nations” will not become less interesting and exciting! A little bit of history for those who have not googled it yet:

The architecture of the “Toros Monumental” combines the Arabian and Byzantine motives. The arena is also known as “Spanish (Barcelonian) Colosseum” due to a respective construction – the arena is surrounded by the high barrier from outside, behind which the spectators’ seats are situated.

The building was built especially for the most famous Spanish spectacle – bullfight or corrida. However, Spaniards enjoyed the corrida inside the Monumental for only 98 years. The entertainment was banned when some residents of Catalonia spoke against the animal abuse. The “Toros Monumental” arena has been used for concerts and other spectacles ever since. We assure you that the Championship of the World in HMB “Battle of the Nations” – 2017 will leave its trace in the history of the great building.
