Esther Veldstra about the improvement for the future tournaments

18 Jun 2018 18:36
Esther Veldstra from the Netherlands is quite happy with her results on the World Championship in HMB “Battle of the Nations”-2018. This year she had an opportunity to focus on her own trainings and preparations for the championship. She chose the “Sword and Buckler” duel category and her results were great!

“The last four years I spent mostly organizing events for the Dutch sport as a whole. This year the sport has grown so much that it sustains itself, which allowed me to focus on my own performance. And I got a medal! The first one for my country. I really did not expect that. I knew I had gotten better, but I had no idea where I stood. The “Sword and Buckler” tournament went by so fast and I could not believe it when they told me I had come in third”.

Esther decided to change her training process to improve the skills. She contacted Pawel Kurzak and joined his “Knight Fit” program. She follows his schedules using a personal training app, which Pawel uses to upload exercises, so Esther can check them off when they are done. The program contains a lot of compound supersets and conditioning.

Also Ms. Veldstra is planning to participate in other duel categories, but her favourite one is still “Sword and Buckler”.
“I think that will stay my favourite for a while, but I will do more “Sword and Shield”, and I really want to learn longsword. If I can find any longsword workshops, and if I can get to them, I surely will try. So far I found none though”.

Esther got a great result and brought a bronze medal from the World Championship to the Netherlands. But she has a plan to improve herself as a fighter in duel categories and as an HMBIA representative. So now she watches educational HMB videos about fighting, trains hard and organizes her own tournament – famous “Kening Striid”. Here is a lot of work to do, and we wish Esther Veldstra success in all these spheres.
